Dermaplaning & Microneedle Therapy

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning, also known as blading, is a safe and simple skin rejuvenation treatment intended to exfoliate the epidermis and remove vellus hairs (peach fuzz), leaving the skin smoother and looking healthier. This exfoliation allows for your skincare products to penetrate more readily into the deeper layers. Dermaplaning is an ideal treatment for those with excess vellous hair because this hair often causes dirt and oil to clog in the follicles. Removing this hair gives the patient healthier looking skin. This is the perfect add on for many aesthetic procedures including laser, microneedling, superficial chemical peels and facials. Dermaplaning is also a prime exfoliation treatment option for those who are pregnant or nursing and not allowed to use chemical peeling agents.

This procedure is not traumatic and is a non-invasive way to remove dead skin cells to renew the skin. Our licensed medical esthetician will use a blade to stroke the skin at an 45 degree angle similar to shaving.  She will prepare and cleanse your skin prior to the treatment and apply a treatment mask and moisturizer afterward.

This is a very safe procedure and only requires that you avoid taking any medications that could cause the blood to thin such as Accutane, Retinols, or any anti-inflammatory drug.  Finally do not wax before your treatment since this interrupts the hair growth cycle.  Other than this there is no special preparation before or after your procedure and you can combine the Dermaplaning with a light peel or facial.  We offer all of these options for you!

How is Dermaplaning performed?

Dermaplaning is safely performed by using a sterile surgical blade.  Don't let the word blade overwhelm you, this is a very safe and effective skin rejuvenation treatment and sometimes can be compared to shaving.  Your medical clinician holds your skin taut while stroking the blade against the skin at a 45 degree angle. This particular medical spa skin treatment is quick and painless.

Will my hair grow back thicker?

This is a common misconception tied to Dermaplaning and is completely false.  It is physiologically impossible for hair to grow back thicker.  We have two different types of hair on our bodies - vellous hair which is most often located on our face and appears to be almost translucent or blonde.  Where terminal hair is much thicker and grows mainly on our under arms, pubic area and eyebrows.  It can be found on mens legs and lower facial areas.

When vellous hair is removed it grows back the same texture and color it was before the Dermaplaning treatment.  This is why we recommend Dermaplaning every 4-6 weeks to keep up with your natural hair cycle.  Terminal hair will grow back the same as it was before - coarse.  If you have unwanted terminal hair that you never want to come back, we do offer Laser Hair Removal Treatments that can do just that.

Dermaplaning is one of Facial Esthetician's favorite types of exfoliation and we encourage anyone who is looking for a quick fix for their dull skin and fuzzy face to schedule a complimentary consultation to learn more about our Dermaplaning treatments.

Derma-Roller Micro Needle Therapy

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, mimics the effects of fractional laser by generating micro-punctures in the skin. This controlled wound-healing response in the deep layers of the skin stimulates the collagen and results in a smoother, more youthful appearance. The micropunctures create a controlled injury underneath the surface of the skin, which then sends a “wake up call” to the collagen to start producing more. The skin plumps and thickens in response to this. Microneedling aims to improve mild to moderate acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, rough skin texture, decreases pore size, and tightens lax skin.

The Derma-Roller is a FDA-approved skin care device and the world's first bio-compatible micro-needle roller.  The Derma-Roller has an outstanding ability to improve your skin because it:

♥ allows a 400% increase in absorbtion of active ingredients

♥ regenerates the skin without removing the dermis or damaging the epidermis

♥ improves the skin's elasticity and texture by promoting collagen formation

The Derma-Roller is ideal for non-surgical and non-ablative treatment of various skin conditions such as aging (wrinkles, stretching), scarring (acne, surgical), and hyperpigmentation.  Clinical studies have been shown that the Derma-Roller Micro Needle Therapy System to be more effective than ablative treatments like laser resurfacing, dermabrasion and deep chemical peeling and just as effective as non-ablative treatments like CO2 laser and Fraxel in stimulating collagen and elastin production to thicken the skin thereby erasing wrinkles and smoothing scars.

How does it work?

Derma-Roller Therapy (also referred to as skin needling, dermal rolling and micro-needling) is performed with high-grade medical stainless steel micro needles mounted on a small wheel that gently rolls over the face and painlessly penetrates the skin’s upper surface.  This simple but revolutionary treatment provides multiple benefits:

Skin Rollers stimulate collagen growth that results in the improvement of the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and stretch marks.  Your skin naturally starts healing (promoting collagen) the minute it feels an injury (or stimulation).

The rollers create thousands of micro-channels in the skin that allow nutrients to absorb; the channels close after several minutes, locking in the anti-aging nutrients and anti-oxidants.

What can I expect with my Derma-Roller Treatment?

The procedure is not painful.

It is typical for the skin to be red for up to one hour after your visit, and the next day you could feel a bit of a tingle on the area (a "good" feeling as to you know you did something to your skin).

A treatment lasts about 45 minutes.

We do not suggest cleansing your skin or wearing make-up for 10 hours after your treatment.

How many treatments do I need?

It is recommended to have 4-6 Derma-Roller treatments scheduled 1 week apart for your initial visits.  After that you are on "maintenance" and we suggest a Derma-Roller treatment every 6 months.  We highly suggest chemical peels and facials to be done throughout your maintenance period.

Depending on your skin type, condition and time schedule, we do offer a "deeper" Derma-Roller series of treatments that are scheduled 2-3 weeks apart.  You can expect more redness from these treatments.  Please call for a complimentary consultation with our Para-Medical Estheticians to see if you are a candidate for this.

We highly recommend using an at-home Derma-Roller (smaller needle) 1-2 times a week for optimal results and continual collagen stimulation.
